An Evening With Schubert

HAMILTON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

Sarah Ioannides, Conductor
Alexandra Smither, Soprano

Beethoven: Egmont Overture
Schubert: Ave Maria
Zosha di Castri: Dear Life
Schubert: Symphony No. 9 in C Major, “The Great”

Schubert’s melodies create an uplifting tone for this concert featuring Guest Soprano Alexandra Smither performing the composer’s beloved Ave Maria. Smither joins the orchestra again for contemporary Canadian composer Zosha di Castri’s Dear Life, based on the short story of the same name by Alice Munro. Beethoven’s Egmont Overture brings drama while Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 presents heavenly melodies for an inspiring conclusion.

Sharing the joy of orchestral music at a young age is a great way to foster an appreciation and interest in the arts. Children age five and older are welcome at any Mainstage concert at FirstOntario Concert Hall with a youth ticket purchase. For children aged 5 and younger, the HPO recommends their Family Concert Series or performances at local libraries.
