HPO - Bernstein & Music of the Americas

In tribute to the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein and his inimitable artistic style, we turn our ears the music of the Americas in the 20th century. Bernstein’s playful and pulsating Symphonic Dances from West Side Story are emblematic of the cultural influences of 1950s New York City, blending the rhythms of Latin dances, jazz and Broadway styles. Additionally, HPO Timpanist Jean Norman Iadeluca is recognized for his years of service to the local and national orchestral community in a new commission for timpani and drum set by American-Canadian composer Ronald Royer.
